| Golf:
To some a sport, to others a religion! There are several golf courses within easy driving
distance (sorry about the pun!) of Bankhead Farm. The closest is Lanark Golf Club (10
minutes drive) - a scenic 18 hole course set next to Lanark Loch. Further afield there is
Holland Bush golf course (30 minutes drive).
Fishing:
The river Clyde is reknowned amongst anglers as one of the prime trout rivers
in Scotland - and it also boasts a run of sea trout and salmon in season. Day tickets to
fish the water can be easily purchased locally.
Stillwater trout fishing is also close by with scenic fishing at Tinto hills fishery - a
pair of hill lochs situated in dramatic countryside which hold both wild brown trout and
stocked rainbows. Also nearby is Newmills Trout and Deer farm - a slightly easier
proposition and an ideal introduction to fishing for the youngsters.
Hot Air Ballooning:
An exciting way to gain a different perspective and experience the scenery of
the Clyde Valley. Scotair Balloons offer chartered balloon flights over the upper Clyde
Valley area. Definitely something you will talk about for years to come.
Country Walks and Hillwalking:
The Clyde Valley offers superb scenery whatever time of year you visit. Tinto
Hill and the Southern Upland hills are close by offering some excellent hillwalking - both
short half day walks and also some more demanding routes (including the Southern Upland
Way - one of Scotland's long distance footpaths).
Less strenuous but equally rewarding is the walk from New Lanark up to Corra Linn falls.
These waterfalls admired, painted and written about over the centuries by artists and
poets are one of the most impressive and scenic sights in Scotland. A very highly
recommended 2-3 hour excursion. |
